Does anyone know if washington has discipline...
Re: Does anyone know if washington has discipline...
Ok really though, so he dropped a pass big deal. You act like some of the other receivers don't either. And, he's not pathetic-he has the speed and the hands. Do you not remember his punt return for a touchdown last season?

Regardless it has to be an NCAA record, and a bad one at that. Perhaps Chad Owens could make his way out to practice, and learn these guys a thing or two about returning punts. We all know that actions speak louder than words, and I can totally recall what he did against BYU. Please, please, please, do something, it is embarassing.
yeah...i was expecting mouton to do better

yeah so he caught the ball... this season hes dropped all the big time plays, the game changing ones... he caught ONE though, which ill be the first to say nice catch... he hasnt been catching the balls consistently, even the simple ones... hes got quicks but it doesnt help when hes gaining his yards going sideline to sideline, when he should be going up the field... You hardly saw owens run east and west, and when you did he turned it into a long return or gain... i wouldnt be getting on washington if he turned his plays into good yac... owens was fearless when he returned punts, ive yet to see washington get a running start and make a defender miss on a return... he either fair catches it on like the 10 or lets it go on the 30 and lets it roll to the 10.... so if he cant utilize his speed by CATCHING the ball whats the point....
ONE QUESTION CMKIM1019, WHO HAS BETTER HANDS??? MIKE WASHINGTON OR EITHER OF THE DREADHEADS, BESS / RGM / RIVERS/ HAWTHORNE.... TELL ME

Well, the punt returner can't do anything if the opposing team is always in his face way before the ball even gets to him. I don't care even if you're chad owens! It lays more with the ST blockers to prevent the rush or at least hold them up a little bit more. Most of the time when our returner catches the ball I'm there praying he doesn't fumble it esp since he's in the middle of several opposing team players already!
Re: Does anyone know if washington has discipline...
the other thing this thread is ignoring completely, is when UH's returners catch the ball, there are unblocked coverage guys all over the place. But when UH kicks, there's no one by the ball-carrier other than the gunners.
I don't think UH's ST units are defeating their counterparts at either end of the field.

Re: Does anyone know if washington has discipline...
I've been busy this year, so I haven't watched enough UH games. I could'a sworn I saw a Funaki pass bounce off Washington's facemask in the Fresno St. game...
However, the stat's don't lie: MW is the #2 receiver on the team w/ 32rec. for 300yds and a TD.
His punt return stat's are kinda sad though: 12 punt returns for 4yds...
Everytime he does a juke...tries a shake 'n bake...the opposing team just CREAMS him!!!!!
If the ST's blockers are so bad, why does Malcom Lane have consistently HUGE returns year in and year out?
Also, last year's PR's were fine w/Davone Bess and Mouton (?).
Still, I guess MW doesn't fumble the ball much...

Re: Does anyone know if washington has discipline...
What does bad blocking this year have to do with Lane? I'm not saying MW is good. Too much juking, not completely with the program. But on multiple punts on Friday, MW was there with 3-4 blue shirts and no blockers even in the picture, while BSU's returner had blue shirts on every white jersey. Good or bad, he's not going anywhere.SundayJam wrote: If the ST's blockers are so bad, why does Malcom Lane have consistently HUGE returns year in and year out?

Re: Does anyone know if washington has discipline...
ive seen chad owens break through 3-4 defenders before, multiple times... ive seen him shed off a would be tackler a nano second before getting creamed... if owens can do it why cant washington???dcwarrior wrote:What does bad blocking this year have to do with Lane? Opposing punters have also done a good job sky punting too him. The ball is in the air for so long that they're gunners are already in M-Dubs face before he can catch it. It's not all on M-Dub here. He'll get a chance to break one.
Personally, I'd also like to see Bain back there sometimes. He has the quickness to make guys miss, which is crucial at PR.

dude seriously i dont usually hate on people but cmon what are you smoking... bain at punt returner... hes not as fast as mike washington nor as quick... though he does catch better... They should find a chad owens, maybe pollard if he can HOLD on to the ball after catching it...uhwarrior23 wrote:+1kepaniamekolea wrote:Well, the punt returner can't do anything if the opposing team is always in his face way before the ball even gets to him. by the way they sky punt to him because they know he panics back there when defenders are breathing down his neck... thats why he muffs a lot... hes more worried about getting hit then catching the ball.... but he needs to stay in their and try to make plays because he "TALKED" a lot in the off season, he gotta keep his word right?? kinda puts him in a sticky situation dont it...
