Anyone have a good handle on UH recruiting?

Post by lava »

I'm curious how many total scholarships we have for next year, how many of those are reserved, and how many of those are available? If all of the scholarships offered were accepted, would that end our recruiting class?

I'm wondering because I'm hoping we have some scholies for some yet=to-be-identified snot-knocking o-tackles.

im sure there are scholarship offers out right now that we do not know of.

there are also 6 greyshirts that could count on the 25. however, some of these may be counted towards the prior year depending on how many scholarship players graduate in december.

1. kainoa lacount
2. alema tachibana
3. art laurel
4. christian vasconcellos
5. earvin sione
6. kalua noa

we also have waylon lolotai and john manu-olevao whose status im not really sure of.

We also now have 8 commits for this season.

1. billy ray stutzman
2. kimo makaula
3. veni manu
4. marcus malepeai
5. corey neilsen
6. deondre powell
7. tj alofipo
8. george daily-lyles

and possibly jesse williams.

that is 17 scholarships. a few of those will count towards last season. and im not really sure on the exact status of lolotai, manu-olevao and williams.

it has also been reported that we have ~18 scholarship offers out to local high schoolers right now. we can eliminate about 9 of them.

4 of them are already commited to the warriors (stutzman, makaula, manu, malepeai).
5 of them are either commited to another school or are 90% certain they are gone to the mainland (shutter, galeai, te'o, hasiak, hilliard).

d. tackles - 1 commit 2 open offers

we havent offered him yet. plays RB/LB for kapolei. could be the big back that Ron Lee wants. but cal lee is the one interested in vehikite, so he might not get an offer. we got lots of outstanding offers to LBs still:

Conrad
Lopati
Te'o
Fanua
Nobriga

in addition to commits of Alofipo and Daily-Lyles. Makaula and Manu im listing as DEs right now.

What was it? 33 players on their final year? That's going to open up a lot of scholarship possibilities, i think. Best not to fill the slots with just anybody though. Gotta be picky, at least until the last reasonable moment. Mabye even save a few for the ones that fall between the cracks.

Then again.. how many of the 33 are on scholarships?

i could be wrong, but i don't think lacount is a greyshirt. the purpose of a greyshirt is to have them come in the spring, so that they can participate in spring ball but not lose a year of eligibility (which would happen if they came in the prior fall). since lacount is a jc transfer, it doesn't make sense to greyshirt him.

rather, hopefully he is already on scholarship and attending classes. he would then be a redshirt and have two years of eligibility left. and of course the point is, his scholarship already counted towards this year and that means your available scholarship count should be +1

i just put greyshirt bc he is not on the team this year and wont be joining them until spring. i do know that he is attending UH this semester, but i dont know if he is on scholarship or not.

just an FYI for future reference ( I understand why you used it though). Cant greyshirt a JC transfer or anyone who has attended classes anywhere for at least one semester full time. LaCount is using a year of eligibility right now.
