UH offers Kalua Noa
UH has offered Kalua Noa a greyshirt/full scholarship offer for Jan 2009. Kalua has been speaking to UH for a while but with no scholie he had decided to go the JC route. When Portland State came into the picture just yesterday coaches discussed it and didnt want to lose him, and the offer to Kalua came this afternoon. His response was "yes, yes, I want it, yes, Ill take it" Parents are very excited as well.

-- Kilinahe is known for the 70 yard fake punt reception from Chad Kapanui in the '02 game at UTEP

Re: UH offers Kalua Noa
This was great news for Kaula and his family! He is taking the offer, and it couldn't go to a better kid. Not only is Kalua a great athlete (he was player of the year OIA in football and basketball, Kaiser's top basketball, football, AND track and field, plus the male athlete of the year), he is a great person who was a peer meditor and honor student at Kaiser. He is humble and works hard. Portland St. was getting a steal, and UH was no dummy!!!! Mark my words, he WILL be one a starter as soon as he touches the field. He is that special!
Re: UH offers Kalua Noa
Doris, thanks for the good news. Good to hear, according to some, that UH is getting an athlete, who's also a good person from a good family.
Wide-out or slot?

Re: UH offers Kalua Noa
Sounds like the high school Division II classification, due it its reduced exposure, has good athletes who toil "under the radar." I thought that "under the radar" athletes would be few and far between due to people like Doris who organize combines and technological advances that enable players to showcase their talent like Youtube, DVDs, etc. I'm happy that Kalua's talent was recognized and that he will be playing at the NCAA Division I level on scholarship. UH seems to be a great fit, and his commitment reinforces the "Noa tradition" here alongside the "Satele tradition" and the "Kafentzis tradition", where families bleed green.

I like the mentality UH's program is bringing to recruiting, taking a chance on some Island pedigree. Get a good mix of the local talent, lock them in early, and I'm sold it will pay off.

Re: UH offers Kalua Noa
UH is thinking Wide-Out, but if he puts on the pounds/muscles, they even like him as a DE. They believe he's just a good all around athlete.Grinch wrote:Doris, thanks for the good news. Good to hear, according to some, that UH is getting an athlete, who's also a good person from a good family.

As far as 'under the radar' there will always be some if the athlete doesnt have video ready to go when coaches ask for it. thats the biggest hurdle of all. My simple saying...no video, no scholarship. Very simple and to the point. Sometimes it takes a little longer but good things happen for good people and patience is a virtue - Kalua Noa, case in point!
